Cabarete, Dominican Republic May 15, 2010. – The Cabarete Classic is set to take place from July 14 to July 18, 2010, and is expected to be bigger and more exciting than ever. The Cabarete Classic is the most important windsurfing competition in the Dominican Republic, and one of Cabarete’s largest annual gatherings. For the last event we had over 150 competitors, over half of which come from outside the country. Participating countries include the Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, The United States, Canada, England, France, Switzerland, and Australia.
Event Overview
• The Cabarete Classic is a four-day long event, and offers racing and freestyle categories for competitors of all ages and abilities.
• Categories include: Mini-Juniors; Juniors; Slalom and Formula in both Sport and Open classes; Women’s Slalom, and a Freestyle competition.
• The Cabarete Classic incorporates Pablito Guzman’s Water Sports Team, sponsored in part by The DREAM Project and Vela Windsurf Resorts. The Team is comprised of disadvantaged youth from the local elementary schools. www.dominicandream,org
• The event is open to racers of any age, gender, and nationality. There are no qualification prerequisites.
While the Cabarete Classic is primarily a windsurfing competition, event festivities will not end at sundown. Each night, programming will continue with special dinners, concerts, and other gatherings for racers, fans, and their families, as well as members of the press. These events are designed to bring visitors and community members together to enjoy the entertainment and fun the town has to offer
